Statistics

Salt production globally was about 256 million tons in 2006; Europe accounted for approx. 70 million tons or 27% of the world production. Traditionally the world’s largest salt producers have been the US and Europe. In recent years these producers have been surpassed by China which held 39% of the total salt production in 2006 (Source : Roskill “The Economics of Salt”, 2007 edition).

Recent figures are now available for 2005-2007. Figures for 2008 should be available in November 2010. Due to competition law, we are not in position to provide more recent figures.
