The European salt sector meets in Marseille for the EUsalt Annual conference 2023

Marseille, 7th June 2023

From the 5-8th of June, more than 100 salt experts and industry leaders from member companies and external participants met in Marseille (FR) for the EUsalt Annual event 2023.

Raising awareness about the salt sector and its long term, ‎constant presence in our everyday life is becoming ‎more and more necessary. ‎This exceptional event, set in the Mediterranean bay of Marseille, is a special opportunity to connect and discuss the future of our industry’, stated Urs Hofmeier, EUsalt President.

The events were hosted by the EUsalt member company Groupe Salins who welcomed the participants to a picturesque city and, later on, to the shiny salt works of Salins de Giraud. ‘It is a pleasure to meeting you in the south of France this year, a place in which sea salt plays an important role’, commented Hubert Francois, EUsalt Board member and Group Salins’ CEO.

On the 7th of June, the EUsalt’s General Assembly was followed by an open conference on various topics of great importance for our sector such as innovation, energy, food and feed and, of ‎course, sea salt.‎ Speakers from different horizons, including ‎representatives from academia and industry‎, presented their projects and researches all linked to the salt industry and its potential for consumers and producers in different fields.

One of the highlights of the EUsalt conference was the newly launched EUsalt Innovation Award which, together with the Safety Award organized since 2016, aims at showcasing and rewarding EUsalt members that show excellence around innovation at work.

Innovation and occupational safety experts, together with EUsalt Board members and conference participants voted to grant:

The Innovation Award to: K+S Minerals and Agriculture GmbH with the project ‘Robotized measurement inspections before and after blasting’

The Safety Award to: Schweizer Salinen (Swiss Salt works) with the project ‘Acid Risk Management’

Congratulations to the winners and to all the contenders.

A big thank you to the sponsors of this year’s conference and see you next year!
